All Essential Information About Decking

There are a number of things that we add to our place to amp up its look. One of the ways which are highly versatile is having a  deck. Decking a flat surface which is usually constructed outdoors connected to the building. It is capable of supporting weight similar to a floor. Decking is a great place to have small gatherings. It requires a lot of planning, organizing and controlling. Decking can be used for various purposes, including creating a swimming pool, playground area, outdoor dining room, garden area, sitting area and many more. It creates an environment which soothes our mind.

Types of decking board:

If you are planning to add a deck to your place, then there are different types of decks used for the same:

  1. Composite (WPC) Boards: Composite Boards are relatively new, which are made up of recycled plastic mixture and wood-flour. They cost a huge amount and are not eco-friendly. However, when it comes to ease of installation, then the WPC board takes the lead. They have a long lifespan but, the materials cannot be recycled. They are weather-resistant, lightweight and offer a huge amount of variety.

  2. PVC Plastic Boards: As the name suggests, they are made up of plastics, which sometimes may look artificial. They require a huge amount of costs, just like composite boards, but are eco-friendly. They can be easily installed and require low maintenance. They also have a long lifespan.  They are easy to clean.

  3. Hardwood Boards: One of the most popular used material for decking is hardwood boards; these are made from tropical trees and are highly durable. Although they are costly, they look amazing. They require regular maintenance as well as difficult for installation.

  4. Pressure: Treated softwood boards- The reason behind being pressure treated is because of their durability. Being of low cost, they are the most popular amongst the customers. They require easy installation but difficult maintenance. They are not eco-friendly as it leads to deforestation. They are, however, readily available and easily sourced. It is good for surface decking and structural parts.

Deck maintenance:

Once a deck is made, it is important to maintain it. Make sure that all the screws and nails are tight. Dust caused by dirt, moss, algae and other plants is required to be removed or else they will tear apart the surface of the wood. Before cleaning up, make sure that all the toys or furniture are not there. Between the deck boards, often debris is seen. Water can be used for the cleaning process. Cleaning solutions can be applied, but be careful before using it. Painting the decks brings back the texture on the surface of the wood.

Preparing for decking:

  1. Planning: Plan what kind of deck do you want. As mentioned above, there are various kinds of deck. Choose the one that best suits your wants. Decide from which company or individual vendor you would want to purchase.

  2. Installation: Once you have decided from whom you want to purchase, make sure that all the materials have been arranged. If you want to personalize your deck, do that. Decorate the place so that it looks even more beautiful. To increase cross-ventilation, make sure to allow 18 inches of open-air underneath.

  3. Finishing Touch: once all the installation has been done, put some stain on the top of the deck, so that is stays protected from all kinds of weather. Bring some flowers, pots, or bins to decorate the place.

Make sure to make it look beautiful and hence it’s important that you must clean it regularly and also check if there are any signs of damage.
